Never Say Never?
Yesterday a FB message dinged on my phone.
Kevin? The campus president at the Logansport campus.
The message began "I don't know whether you will be interested or not, but...." And proceeded to tell me that Lori (who used to be at Ivy Tech) was looking for an English instructor for a class at Trine.
First instinct? Uh...no. I am done with teaching. I enjoy not having to plan lessons. Not listening to excuses from students about why they didn't/couldn't complete the assinments. Most of all...I do not miss grading one bit. Not. One. Bit.
Second instinct? It wouldn't hurt to check it out, find out the details of the class, when, how many students, and the pay. Would it?
So I sent Lori and email. She was quick to respond.
8 week course.
Wednesday from 6-10 p.m.
20 students - 11 in person, 9 online
Start date - October 25
Pay - $1800
Whoa! Not bad for 8 class meetings,
She would have a syllabus for me to follow.
So yes, I am considering it. I love teaching. I miss interaction with students. I enjoy light bulbs popping on when they write something well and know it.
Wednesdays. The day we take Cooper to pre-school and in a few weeks will be helping with Lynnlee. I can drive to Logan from Megan and Matt's house and teach the class.
It's only 8 weeks which is really not that long. As I always told Julie, I can do anything for a semester. Well, this is only 8 weeks. Piece of cake.
But looks at the other stuff that happens in November and December. Thanksgiving! Christmas!
But having a schedule will help me stay more organized,
And the pay? As I said before, $1800 for 8 class meetings. Not a bad gig! Who can't use a little bit of extra cash around the holidays?!?!
I always say to pray about it and ask for the doors to open or remain closed. So that's what I'm doing. Praying and waiting,
Never say never. You can't tell what might happen!
