Some One-on-One Time
Yesterday was another "Yaggie Kids at Mamaw and Papaw's House" day. Hilary had two photo shoots and Blaine was working nights so that meant he was sleeping in the morning, then going into work around 3.
Activity is always good, and having something fun to do is even better.
Morning - Tessa and i drove to Burnettsville to pick up my sewing machine at the quilt shop. I had dropped it off there on Monday for the 'tune up' on Thursday. Betty had called to tell me that it was ready, so this was our first task of the day.
Tessa was impressed with all of the fabric and enjoyed wandering up and down the aisles. She was even more impressed with watching Betty measure fabric off the bolt and use the cutter to slice the yardage off. I could look around at leisure because I knew where Tessa was -- glued to the cutting table and talking to Betty.
On the drive to Burnettsville and back, Tessa entertained us by reading a story out of her book, then making up her own stories to go along with the pictures. Sometimes her made up stories were more entertaining than the printed words. Peanut butter seemed to be a popular item in each of the stories she created.
Next stop was the apple orchard. When I handed her a bag, she decided to fill it with two of each variety of apple. I am not sure that all of those were the varieties that Gary liked, but she picked them, just for him, and i am sure she will enjoy them. We also bought slushies - peach for me and apple cider for her. The last item we purchased was a 6 pack of apple cider donuts made by Flour Mill with the cider pressed at the orchard. A perk of being at the orchard was seeing her mommy at work on her first photo shoot of the day.
We stopped at Rossville Quilts next to check on Moda fabric that might match the layer cake I bought at the Quilting at the Beach shop at Myrtle Beach. They didn't carry any bolts of matching fabric so I was hoping the Rossville did. They didn't. While I was searching, Tessa was checking out the quilted animals. She always drifts to that display each time she stops there with me.
Final stop was at the pumpkin patch. This was fun because she helped me pick out small and large pumpkins plus some gourds to use for decorations. She pulled a Radio Flyer wagon around, loaded it up with pumpkins, and pulled it to the check out area so we could pay. She also helped me load them into the back of the Escape.
After lunch and a visit with Daddy and some time with Aunt Megan, Uncle Matt, Cooper, and Lynnlee, Landon and i left for a quick trip to Barnes and Noble. He wanted to ride in the new car, so that is what we did. He was entertained by answering a call from his mommy, then calling Papaw, and calling his mommy again and also trying to call Aunt Greta. That phone sync was fun to use! The stop at Barnes and Noble was a good one. He talked to the lady who works with the children's books and asked about those published by Scholastic, then specifically asked about one that he had just finished. She led him to an area where there were more books in the series, showed him where the step stool was so he could reach the high shelves, and let him browse. He selected three books - two for his adoption day and one just because he had helped us with mowing all summer. While I was looking at books for me, he sat on the floor and in one aisle, he was lying on the floor, totally engrossed in reading his book.
Our second stop was at Meijer. I had a short list of things to purchase. He pushed the cart everywhere I wanted to go, and we kept to the list, except for grabbing a box of Fruity Pebbles. He then pushed the cart to the self-checkout which I never use, but he seemed very proficient at scanning the items and placing them in the bags. He then loaded the bags into the cart and off we went to the parking lot. When we arrived at home, he carried in the bags and helped put things away too! What a helper!
Later after we enjoyed Arni's pizza and parts of a stromboli from Arni's, we sat outside for a while. Now it was Owen's turn. He loved the pumpkins and gourds and took some time to cart them around in his little wheelbarrows. He would place them in the flower bed in front of the garage, then move them to the tree by the swing. Those pumpkins and gourds provided tons of entertainment for him. Even though he stayed home with Papaw while the others were out running around with me, he was in 7th Heaven with moving the pumpkins around from place to place. He will be here tomorrow afternoon, and I have a feeling he will be moving them again from the spots where I placed them today to better spots, more to his liking.
One on one time is always good, and it was fun to do things and go places with Landon and Tessa on Saturday. I hope they have great memories of the time we spend together. It is very special to me!
