Happy Birthday, Owen Lee!
Today was Owen's birthday. He turned 4 on September 4. It was his 'magic' birthday, but the focus wasn't on that today.
The focus was just on him.
Four years ago Hilary and Blaine received a call, asking if they would be willing to accept a new baby into their family. There had been 'red flags' around him when his birth mother arrived at the maternity clinic at the hospital. Drugs.
Landon and Tessa were the children in their family at the time, and they wanted another little boy to complete it. Of course they agreed.
For a day or two there was a flurry of activity as we bought baby boy clothes, diapers, formula, and other necessities for a new baby. The crib was re-made for a new little one, and a room of his own was created.
If I said that everything was perfect in his first year of life, I would be lying, because it wasn't. There was many issues surrounding his birth and the birth mother's pregnancy that had lasting effects on him.
I remember being so careful with what I ate and what I drank and with anything that I put into my body during my pregnancies because I wanted my babies to be healthy. This wasn't the case with Owen's birth mother.
Fast forward to today. We celebrated a little guy who is learning each and every day. He is loving and kind. He is so smart. There are issues still, but with extra work with his developmental pre-school teachers, visits to therapy, and lots of love from his family, he will grow into a wonderful little guy with a bright future.
We love you, Owen Lee. We wouldn't trade you for anything in the world.
Happy Birthday! You are very special to us!
